Our Goal: 1 million trees
planted, 1.6 million lives saved,
250 million butterflies protected.
A dollar invested with us will reduce respiratory ailments by 40%, reduce childhood burns, reduce wood cutting for fuel by up to 70%, reduce carbon emissions, protect the forest, protect the butterfly’s home and protect important watersheds for the people of Central Mexico.
UNIQUELY linking two programs to help people, butterflies and forests:
Planting Trees: For every dollar, ECOLIFE plants and maintains a tree. These trees provide an alternative fuel and timber source for the indigenous people, while allowing the Oyamel forests to remain intact.
The plan calls for the planting up to 1 million trees in the Sierra Madre Occidental Forest outside of the Monarch Butterfly reserves. These trees will provide fuelwood for local residents without impacting the trees on which the Monarch Butterflies depend. This collaborative, trans-border approach aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, support the forests’ vital ecological and economic functions and protect the Monarch Butterfly. At the same time, ECOLIFE Foundation is helping local families reduce their dependence on cutting firewood by providing them with fuel-efficient stoves.

Patsari Stoves: With every $120 dollar donation, ECOLIFE builds and installs a highly efficient wood burning Patsari stove for use in the homes of the Ejido communities. An average Ejido family requires 40 trees annually for heating and cooking. The Patsari stove reduces this to 12 trees.
In Mexico the installation of the high-efficiency Patsari Stove is a powerful tool for addressing not only the conservation issues of open fires for cooking but family health as well.
Almost half of the people in the world prepare some of their food over unvented indoor wood fires. The smoke from these fires kills 1.6 million women and children a year. That works out to one woman or child every 20 seconds. This does not include the effects of ongoing respiratory ailments or accidental burns on an open fire. Worldwide, the cutting of trees for these cooking fires is a leading cause of deforestation, watershed loss, and increased carbon emissions.
One stove --> Uses 70% less firewood --> Fewer trees are cut down -->
Reduces smoke related allergies and deaths by 40% --> Greater quality of life --> Saves 5 tons of carbon per stove annually --> Reduces global footprint emissions.
