Deep Wells in Uganda
In Uganda, more than 70% of the water provided by the city is contaminated. Ugandan school children drink diseased-filled water from local rivers because the schools lack methods to purify their water.
Earlier this year we sank a borehole and educated the school in the sanitary management of that water resource. But the borehole is more than a third of a mile from school and requires more than 300 trips a day to provide the school with water. This year we want to add a pipe to bring the water to the school. Watch for more news on this exciting project . . .
Currently ECOLIFE is also looking to expand this clean water project in 2010 by raising funds to restore a large rainwater catchment tank in the community of Gayaza, Uganda. The water collected from this catchment tank will be used for laundry and bathing, which will allow water from the borehole to be strictly used for sanitary drinking water.
